Mobilization & Collaboration
From local engagement to global thematic campaigns, TakingITGlobal's programs enable young people around the world to mobilize and collaborate with their peers.
Creating Local Connections
In 2005, TakingITGlobal initiated a program in Russia to engage youth and encourage use of our tools. With support from Microsoft, Russian youth were able to connect into TIG's online community, addressing a number of different issues that affected them (download the final project report). This first iteration of Creating Local Connections served as the basis for the following projects in other regions and countries around the world.
CLC Canada: A collaborative program aimed at promoting and supporting youth participation by targeting individual youth and youth-led or highly youth-engaged initiatives in Canada. The team is comprised of 25 coordinators based in every province and territory. They have been well received by community centres and schools who wish to introduce further youth programming focused on global education and supporting youth action projects. CLC West Africa: A two-year pilot program that sought to establish a technology-driven youth initiative in five West African countries: Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. A series of online and offline activities - including capacity building were carried out by local coordinators, and was highly customized to the needs of the individual countries. Youth For Change: A pilot project that aims to engage youth from the Arab world in cross-cultural dialogue, while supporting youth-led development through local projects. This partnership with Bibliotheca Alexandrina launched in Egypt in March 2008 and focused on outreach in 10 priority countries: Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Bahrain, Yemen, UAE, Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine. Global Youth Service Day (GYSD): A project of Youth Service America (YSA), which partnered with the Global Youth Action Network to launch in 2000 and coordinate. GYSD followed the succes of National Youth Service Day, which YSA has organized since 1987. GYSD became the world's largest annual celebration of young volunteers in 2002, and engages millions of young people in over 100 countries during a weekend in April. GYSD is supported and organized by a consortium of national and international organizations, and national committees in about 125 countries. Learn more about GYSD.
