TakingITGlobal (TIG) is an international organization, led by youth and empowered by technology. TIG’s vision is of a world in which youth everywhere are actively engaged and connected in shaping a more inclusive, peaceful and sustainable world. To that purpose, TIG facilitates global understanding and inspires leadership among youth to enhance their participation in social movements for a better world.

In 2008, TIG, which is headquartered in Toronto, Canada, entered into a strategic alliance with the Global Youth Action Network (GYAN), a 501c3 non-profit organization with offices in New York, Mexico City and Accra. The strategic alliance between TIG and GYAN reflects a unique combination of strengths in catalyzing collaboration among different stakeholders, mobilizing socially engaged youth and youth organizations on global issues (in particular in developing countries), utilizing the power of online networking for social change, facilitating collaborative learning experiences for youth as well as supporting youth participation in international policy processes.

From their New York base at Green Spaces NY, the organization currently works on three priority areas:

1. We facilitate youth participation and intergenerational partnership in global decision-making, particularly at the United Nations. GYAN maintains Special Consultative Status with the Economic & Social Council (ECOSOC) and provides input on a regular basis to policy processes based on consultations with its network of more than 1,300 youth organizations in over 150 countries. We also frequently work with several UN agencies to undertake youth-focused research or develop youth-friendly policies.

2. We support collaboration among diverse youth organizations, and facilitate programs that enable young people around the world to mobilize their peers on global issues. Since 2008, one of our main priorities has been to strengthen and diversify the growing global youth climate movement.

3. Through TIGweb.org and our monthly newsletter, we provide tools, resources and recognition for positive youth action. TIGweb.org is the most popular online community for socially engaged youth from across the world with over 230,000 individual members and an average of 2 million hits per day.

Also sharing the space with TakingTIGlobal and the Global Youth Action Network is the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS, a UNFPA and UNAIDS supported global network of more than 5,000 young leaders and adult allies working on youth and HIV/AIDS in 150 countries world-wide. GYCA's mission is to empower young leaders with the skills, knowledge, resources and opportunities they need to scale up HIV/AIDS interventions amongst their peers. GYCA was incubated by GYAN in 2004 and has been hosted by the organization since then.
